FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
PRIVATE LEASING
WHAT IS LEASING?
Leasing is considered somewhere between ownership and borrowing. Leased furniture is owned by Slettvoll's financing partner, while you as a leasing customer use the furniture and pay a monthly rental fee.
WHAT CAN I LEASE?
At Slettvoll, you can lease all types of indoor and outdoor furniture, as well as carpets and lighting. Everything is customised to provide you with the perfect interior for your home.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE AGREEMENT?
Leasing with Slettvoll includes interior designer consultation with furniture planning and sketching. In addition, we deliver the furniture to your home, assemble the necessary pieces and recycle the packaging. When you sign a lease with Slettvoll, you will also receive a maintenance agreement. This agreement includes an annual home visit during which we oil and treat furniture that requires it and offer maintenance advice and guidance for the leased furniture.
WHAT IS THE INITIAL DEPOSIT?
The initial deposit is the amount that must be paid at your Slettvoll store upon signing the leasing agreement. This amount is deducted when calculating the monthly payment, according to the total amount to be financed.
WHAT IS RESIDUAL VALUE?
The residual value is the price at which Slettvoll estimates the furniture will be sold at the conclusion of the lease. If you wish to purchase the furniture at the conclusion of the lease term, the purchase price will be negotiated with your local Slettvoll store. This amount is determined by the cost of the leased furniture, the duration of the lease and the assumed loss in value.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE FURNITURE IS DAMAGED DURING THE DURATION OF THE LEASE?
If any of the furniture you are leasing is damaged, you must immediately notify the shop with whom you have made the agreement. Our employees will determine whether the damage can be repaired and implement any necessary adjustments. As the leasing customer, you are responsible for any repairs or damage beyond normal wear and tear, either by adding the value of the product to the residual value of the rental agreement or by purchasing the product outright.

FABRICS AND LEATHER
IMPORTANT TO BEAR IN MIND
Daylight and direct sunlight is harmful to all furniture. The sun initiates a chemical reaction in the material that causes the fibres to deteriorate and fade. Extreme heat has the same effect and diminishes wear resistance. Therefore, you should protect the furniture from the sun and avoid placing it near heat sources such as radiators and fireplaces.
Avoid getting sweat, salt or cooking oils on the furniture. Similar to sunlight, it degrades the fibres and stains leather. Alcohol, water and other liquids can alter and bleed out colours. Dark clothing can transfer colour. Garments made of coarse fabrics or with rivets and coarse seams can pull out threads and result in unsightly pilling or felting. If the piece of furniture is used frequently on a daily basis, we recommend armrest protectors.
TEXTILES AND LEATHER SAMPLES
It is always a good idea to take large textile samples home so that you can check how the colour looks in the intended room. All of our stores have interior design consultants who are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about furniture and interiors. They can provide useful guidance and assistance in selecting the fabric that complements your home and where the item of furniture will sit.
FADING OF FABRIC
Unfortunately, fading is an inevitable consequence of prolonged exposure to daylight, sunlight, and heat. Depending on the lightfastness of the fabrics and the extent to which it is exposed to direct light, some fabrics will fade faster than others. Sunlight, daylight, and heat will initiate a chemical reaction that breaks down fabrics fibres and reduces their wear resistance.
CLEANING LEATHER FURNITURE
We recommend routine cleaning and maintenance to keep your leather furniture looking great over time. Dust should be removed frequently by vacuuming with a soft brush and dusting with a clean, damp, white cotton cloth. Nubuck cleaning products can be purchased at all of our Slettvoll locations and are suitable for cleaning leather furniture. Follow the instructions on the bottle. Use no other chemicals on leather furniture. Using a soft nubuck brush, you can preserve the velvet appearance of nubuck leather upholstery. The furniture must be protected from sunlight and heat sources via sun protection and distance from such sources.
REMOVING STAINS ON LEATHER FURNITURE
Water-soluble stains should be removed as soon as possible with a clean, white, soft cloth or sponge dipped in lukewarm water and thoroughly wrung out (preferably boiled water). If necessary, add a PH neutral soap to the water. Be careful with the amount of water. Too much water can cause the colours to bleed.
FADING OF LEATHER FURNITURE
Leather on furniture is light-sensitive, especially to direct sunlight and will fade over time. Additionally, Nubuck Aniline leather is sensitive to oil and dust. To prevent this, leather furniture should be treated with Colourlock Universal Protector prior to use. This should then be applied 2 -4 times a year. This product contains a UV filter, antioxidants and a conditioner. It increases the leather's resistance to water, dirt, oil, and fading. Follow the instructions on the bottle, which is available at all of our Slettvoll locations.
MARKS IN THE LEATHER
Leather used for upholstery is a natural product made from cowhide. Depending on the type of treatment the surface receives, scars, marks, and colour variations will appear. We have chosen to use Aniline leather for our furnishings. Its ability to breathe has been preserved as a result of its pores being open. Aniline skin is considered to provide the most comfortable user experience. Only the best skins are used for Aniline leather, which is selected early on in the process. It is minimally processed after tanning, so marks from insect bites may show. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with the leather in the item you have received; rather, it is a unique trait that reveals the individuality of the animal.

PROTECTING LACQUERED VENEERED OAK
For daily cleaning, wash with a well-wrung cotton cloth and clean water. Be careful to wipe off any excess water. The use of microfibre cloths and strong detergents can cause surface damage. We recommend using Opalin spray wax. Opaline protects all lacquered surfaces from wear, dirt, and liquid penetration. If decorative objects are to be placed on the product, felt pads are recommended to prevent surface damage. Read the maintenance manual carefully that comes with the product for additional information.

PROTECTING OILED SOLID OAK
For daily cleaning, wash with a well-wrung cotton cloth and clean water. Be careful to wipe off any excess water. The use of microfibre cloths and strong detergents can cause surface damage.
Tables with an oiled surface must be oiled regularly. Recommended 2 -4 times per year. Using a few drops of water, you can determine whether the table requires oiling. The table must be oiled if water seeps into the wood. However, it is not necessary if the water collects on the surface. If the surface is not wiped clean after being oiled, it can become sticky. Light tabletops can be sanded down with sandpaper if this occurs. Start with grade 100 and then again with grade 150, before applying oil again. This does not apply to dark colours. Avoid the risk of fire by adhering to the maintenance product's instructions for use.
If decorative objects are to be placed on a table, felt pads are recommended to prevent surface damage. Carefully read the maintenance manual that comes with your table for additional maintenance information.
PROTECTING TEMPERED GLASS
For daily cleaning, wash with a well-wrung cotton cloth and clean water. It is recommended to use felt pads when placing decorative objects on glass in order to avoid scratching the surface.
STAINS ON SOLID WOOD TABLES
Grease stains on solid wood will fade and become less visible over time. It is essential to regularly clean the entire tabletop and avoid rubbing directly on stains. Over time, the condition of the table will improve if it is cleaned with mild soapy water or plain water.
MARKS ON SOLID WOOD TABLES
Through use, solid wood tabletops may sustain nicks or marks. In some cases, these can be treated by rubbing oil into the affected area If there is a chip on the edge of the tabletop, a damp cloth can be used to clean it. Alternatively, you can also attempt to steam up the chip or notch using the tip of a hot iron, but you must always place a piece of wet kitchen paper or a wet cloth between the tabletop and the iron. After completion of the treatment, the tabletop must be re-oiled.

NEW COVERS FOR DINING CHAIRS
In certain instances, we will be able to offer replacement covers for older models. Check with your local Slettvoll store to see if covers can still be manufactured for your piece of furniture.
When reordering new chair covers, it is essential to pay close attention to the fit. The new cover is sewn according to patterns for a new piece of furniture, and as a result, it may appear a bit large or loose. This is natural, as the foam or inlay on a piece of furniture will compress over time as it is used.
NEW LEGS
It is possible to reorder new legs for the furniture in our collection. We may also be able to supply furniture that has been discontinued in some cases. Contact your local Slettvoll store and they will be able to help with this.
ADDITIONAL EXTENSION LEAVES
When buying a dining table with options for additional extension leaves, we recommend the extensions be purchased at the same time. We cannot guarantee that additional leaves purchased after the table will have the same pattern and structure. This will not be considered a fault or cause for complaint.
Extension leaves stored in a different room with a different humidity and temperature should be brought in well before they are to be used. Leaves stored in other rooms will not be affected by light in the same way and will not change in the same way as the table which is exposed. Leaves with an oiled surface must be oiled on a regular basis to avoid drying out.
