Masculin look in the loft
In the heart of Stockholm under sloped roofs and broad beams, Geir Oterkjær, one of Slettvoll's interior designers, has created a unique and masculine home.
At first glance, one can see how the room's warm copper and earth tones tie together the open floor plan. From the luxurious kitchen in modern gray and marble to the inviting living room with the fireplace as the focal point, every detail radiates thought-out design and functionality. "I immediately saw that the copper tiger heads should have their place on the living room wall. They fit perfectly and complement the rustic wooden beams and the industrial feel from the bricks around the fireplace," explains Geir.
Preserved the soul of the residence
The client's wish was to strip the apartment of everything and start anew. "But," says Geir, "keeping something and giving it new life can often add more character to a home." A small Chinese cabinet was transformed into a nightstand, a previously yellow rattan chair was painted black, and the headboard was reupholstered in a houndstooth pattern. Some of the existing lamps continued to shine.
The furniture is carefully selected to balance the masculine and raw with the soft and inviting. A military green dining sofa from Slettvoll stands as a central focal point in the living room, while the owner's own chairs rounded off the dining room's robust but sleek look.
"The client wanted to strip the apartment of everything and start anew. However, keeping something and giving it new life can often add more character to a home."
Artistic Touch
"The art was already in the apartment, I just reorganized where they should hang to maximize their effect," Geir shares. Each artwork in the home complements the color palette and material use in the rest of the decor.
"The round table by the window has no specific function, but it is just so incredibly beautiful," he says. This underscores Geir's philosophy that not all elements in a home need a clear and defined role. Sometimes aesthetics counts the most, which in this case gives the room an international and luxurious atmosphere.
A good interaction
Decorating a home can be a time-consuming process, especially if you are not sure where to start. An interior designer can streamline the entire process by taking care of planning, coordination, and execution of the project. They can help acquire furniture and decorative elements that can put a special touch on the decor. Most importantly, they can help you avoid costly mistakes along the way. Slettvoll's interior designers take the time to get to know both you and your decorating project. They listen to your needs, preferences, and lifestyle so that you ultimately create a home that reflects your personality.
At Slettvoll, the process often starts in the store with a non-committal meeting where you get to know each other. Then the interior designer usually makes a home visit to get a feel for the home, architecture, and style. Here, the conversation about desires and dreams continues, and based on this, they are able to develop a so-called mood board with colors, materials, drawings, images, and suggestions for furniture, textiles, and lamps. From this proposal, you jointly find more concrete solutions, which usually results in a revised interior proposal. And best of all – the entire consulting service is included in the deal when you buy furniture at Slettvoll.
