Modern log cabin

Behind the vertiginous snow banks lining the road that winds up to the Strandafjellet ski resort, there it stands; a large log cabin that seems to melt into the terrain. With the mountain set behind it and spectacular views over the wide alpine landscape, it is a dream of a cabin.

“We wanted to build a cabin where we could bring our extended family together for weekends and holidays. A cabin sheltered from the wind and weather, but offering panoramic views. With open spaces and huge windows that let in the light and the landscape. With a modern, untraditional look.”

– Steinar and Mona Lausund, owners

With the mountain behind and the sky above

What hits you first when you enter the cabin is the exciting juxtaposition of traditional notched log walls and modern interior design. The open-plan kitchen and dining area; the floor-to-ceiling windows that seem to bring the landscape right inside; the unique stone-clad wall with built-in biogas fireplace, and the floating staircase of glass, metal and wood that leads up to the bedrooms on the first floor.

To reinforce the look, Slettvoll’s interior design team chose generously sized, incredibly comfortable furniture, and woollen textiles with Andean-style geometric patterns for contrast. Along with a colour palette in subdued earth tones, this has given the cabin a personal, hospitable and exciting atmosphere, with space and comfort for all – outside and in.
